Climate of Lake Titicaca Area

Lake Titicaca, which is the largest lake in South America, is in the northern side if the Andes and borders Peru. On its western part, the region is partly in Puno, Peru and this makes the weather cold & dry all year round.  If you are looking for a holiday destination in a place where the weather is different and a place where you can have great adventures, Lake Titicaca area is a perfect choice.

Lake Titicaca area experiences an alpine climate where the temperatures are cool or cold throughout the year. The climate is greatly influenced by the attitude and its geographical location and will keep changing from time to time. During the day, the temperatures are very high and at times, it will get very cold at times. The annual temperature in Lake Titicaca area is 7degrees and the average rainfall annually is 610mm. 

Summer

During summer, Lake Titicaca area experiences warm temperatures during the day and the nights are very cold especially in June. The temperatures can get as high as 21 degrees and at night, the temperatures can be as low as 7 degrees. For 10 hours during the day, Late Titicaca area experiences continued sunshine and you’ll not experience any foggy weather. 

As the season comes to an end in the month of August, the temperature gets slightly higher at 22 degrees but the nights do not change.

Autumn

The average temperature in the month of September is 16 degrees but it can get as high as 23 degrees and as low as 8 degrees. During the day, the region experiences sunshine for 10 hours without fog. In October, the rainfall in Lake Titicaca increases and the level of precipitation gets to 41mm. 

At it gets to November which is the last autumn month, the temperature remains the same during the day but at night, the temperatures will rise to 9 degrees. The rainfall increases to 55mm though the region also experiences 10 hours of sunshine without any fog.

Winter

During the month of December, the temperatures remain 16 degrees with the highest being 22 degrees during the day. At night, the average temperate is 9 degrees.  Lake Titicaca area experiences 9 hours of sunshine during winter and one hour of fog. The rainfall is also more intense where it gets to 86mm for 23 days. 

It is in the month of January that Lake Titicaca area experiences the highest amount of rainfall at 133mm. the temperature during the day remains at 16 degrees but at night, the temperatures get higher at 10 degrees. The region experiences 7 hours of sunshine every day but for 6 days, Lake Titicaca area experiences a foggy condition.

Spring

As spring approaches, there is a drop in rainfall intensity where it only rains for 13 days. The temperature slightly goes high to 22 degrees during the day but the nights remain the same. The area gets more sunshine for 9 hours with only one fog day.

Towards May, the rainfall is greatly reduced to 3 days but the temperature remains 16 degrees. This is the best time to visit Lake Titicaca area as you’ll have more time to enjoy your vacation. You’ll get to view the natural beauty of the island, interact with the locals and visit some of the historic sites in the area.
